Beta feature notice

As a beta feature, News feeds may occasionally experience errors, interruptions, or incomplete functionality.

News feeds keeps a list of RSS or Atom feeds for your application. Once a feed is registered, Pushwoosh imports its articles every hour, so a News block in email, a News feed push preset, or a News Feeds preset in SMS can pull the newest articles at send time instead of going stale between campaigns.

To open it, go to Content → News Feeds for the application in the Pushwoosh Control Panel.

Prerequisites

• A public RSS 2.0 or Atom feed URL that Pushwoosh can reach without a login.

Register a feed

1. Click Add feed.
2. Enter the feed’s URL in Feed URL.
3. Click Check feed. Pushwoosh reads the URL and reports what it found, without saving anything yet.
4. Adjust Name if needed. It’s filled in from the feed’s own title once the check succeeds, and is what you’ll see when picking this feed in a News block or a News Feeds preset.
5. Turn Import this feed hourly off if you want to save the feed without scheduling automatic imports. Leave it on to keep the feed refreshing every hour.
6. Click Add feed.

Add feed stays disabled until Check feed succeeds. The check reports one of:

• A preview: the feed’s title, how many articles it read, and up to three article headlines.
• Could not read the feed: the URL is unreachable, doesn’t return valid feed data, or has no articles at all, for example “feed returned HTTP 404” or “XML feed has no <item> or <entry> elements.”

Once added, Pushwoosh imports the feed’s articles right away, then again every hour after that.

If a registered feed later goes unreachable or stops returning articles, the content that reads it doesn’t fail because of it: the News block in email hides its card grid for affected recipients, while the News feed push preset and the News Feeds SMS preset fall back to whatever you set under If the feed returns nothing.

Manage a feed

Use a row’s menu (⋮) to change a feed:

• Edit: reopens the feed’s URL, name, and hourly-import toggle so you can update them.
• Delete: removes the feed entirely. Pushwoosh warns that the feed stops being imported and its articles disappear from any email, push, or SMS content that reads it, and suggests disabling instead if you only want to pause it. Each of those content types has its own setting for what to send when a feed returns nothing, so a deleted feed doesn’t stop the send.

The row’s Enabled toggle, or Disable and Enable in the same menu, control a separate setting: whether the feed keeps importing on its hourly schedule. Turning a feed off pauses future imports without removing the feed or the articles already imported. Turning it back on imports the feed right away, the same as when you first add it, then keeps it refreshing every hour after that.
