App Inbox presets

App Inbox presets let you reuse the same inbox message in one-time Inbox sends and in the App Inbox journey element, so you don’t recreate layout, copy, and media for every campaign. On the same page, you can split the app’s inbox into tabs.

  2. Click the + icon next to Default language.
  3. Select the languages you need.

Choose a layout type

Anchor link to

In Layout type, choose how the card looks in the inbox list. Each option uses a different mix of media and text:

  • Classic: small icon beside Title and Message. No large image.
  • Captioned: one large image with Title and Message under it.
  • Banner: full-width image only. No Title or Message in the list.
  • Carousel: several images the user can swipe. One shared Title and Message, plus an optional caption on each slide.

Classic is the compact list row: icon on the left, Title and Message next to it.

  1. Set Title and Message for the text in the inbox list.
  2. Set Icon URL to a URL, or pick an image from Media storage. Use a 1:1 aspect ratio when you can.

Captioned is a single hero image with copy under it.

  1. Set Title and Message.
  2. Set Image URL to a URL, or pick an image from Media storage. Use a 1:2 aspect ratio when you can.

Banner is an image-only layout: a full-width image with no Title or Message. Set Image URL only (URL or Media storage). Use a 1:2 aspect ratio when you can.

Carousel is a multi-image card: the user swipes between slides. Title and Message apply to the whole card, and each slide can have its own Caption.

  1. Set Title and Message.
  2. In Media, set Image URL for each slide.
  3. Optional: set a Caption on each slide.
  4. To add another slide, click Add image.

Validate Liquid syntax

Anchor link to

If you use Liquid templates in the message, click Validate Liquid Syntax to check for syntax errors before saving.

Add custom data

Anchor link to

Use custom data when the app needs more than the visible inbox text, for example to open a screen, pass a campaign id, or run logic after the user opens the message. Pushwoosh sends this JSON to the SDK with the message, the same as Custom Data in push presets.

Click Insert JSON and enter a JSON object with key-value pairs.

Check the preview labeled App inbox (with an unread count) to see how the message looks in the inbox list. Switch the iOS, Android, and Web tabs to check each platform.

Send a test message

Anchor link to

To check the message on a real device before you use the preset, send it to your test devices.

  1. Click Test app inbox message under the preview.
  2. In Test app inbox content, check how many devices of the app are marked for testing.
  3. Click Send.

The test goes to every test device of the app, whichever platform tab is selected in the preview. It uses the content as it is in the editor, so you don’t need to save the preset first. The test message has no on-click action, because actions are set when you send the message.

Click Save next to the preset name to store the preset. Saved presets appear under Content > Inbox content. Use them in one-time Inbox messages and the App Inbox journey element.

Delete presets

Anchor link to

To delete several presets at once:

  1. Go to Content > Inbox content.
  2. Click Bulk actions → Delete….
  3. Select the presets.
  4. Click the Delete button above the list.

Presets used in journeys are skipped. Deleted presets can’t be restored.

Set up inbox tabs

Anchor link to

Inbox tabs split the app’s inbox into up to three topics, such as Offers and News. This is how messages show:

  • A message sent to a tab shows in that tab and in All.
  • A message sent with no tab shows only in All.
  • Until you add a tab, the inbox is one list.

Inbox tabs page with the All tab marked Shows all messages, the Offers and News tabs, and Add tab

Add a tab in the Inbox tabs settings. The app can have up to three tabs besides All.

  1. Go to Content > Inbox content.
  2. Click Inbox tabs.
  3. Click Add tab.
  4. In Title, enter the tab name, up to 32 characters.
  5. To translate the name, add languages in the language selector above Title and enter the name for each.
  6. Click Save.

If a user’s language has no translation, the user sees the Default name.

The first tab you add also creates All, marked Shows all messages. All stays first, and you can edit its title but not move or delete it.

To pick a tab for a message, see one-time Inbox messages and the App Inbox journey element.

Change, reorder, or delete tabs

Anchor link to

Use the row of a tab to change it:

  • To rename a tab or change its translations, open the actions menu (⋮) on its row and click Edit.
  • To change the order, click the up or down arrow on a tab’s row.
  • To delete a tab, open the actions menu (⋮) on its row, click Delete…, and confirm. Messages already in the tab stay in the inbox and show only in All. A deleted tab can’t be restored. If you delete the last tab besides All, All is deleted too, and the inbox is one list again.
