Frequency Capping

Make sure your customers don't receive too many push notifications from you

Overview

By using frequency capping, you ensure your customers don't receive too many push notifications from you in a short period. Make your customer communications continuous but not annoying by setting up the frequency capping rules.‌

Frequency capping settings allow limiting the number of push notifications sent to a particular user within a specified period. If no capping is set, the message is sent to every user meeting the conditions you specify for that specific message or automated messages series.

Frequency capping is currently available for pushes sent from the Send Push form, as well as for Triggered Messages, Autopushes, and CSV pushes.‌

How it works ‌

If capping is set, Pushwoosh while sending a push message checks how many push notifications have been sent to a device within a specified period. If this number is equal to or exceeds the number of impressions you set up for message's frequency capping, the message won't be sent to that device.

Please note that frequency capping takes into account push notifications of all sources, including Triggered Messages, Autopushes, Geozone pushes, etc.‌

How to implement

To enable Frequency Capping for your account, please contact our Customer Support Team or your Customer Success Manager.‌

To set up capping rules, check the checkbox "Limit frequency of sending this message to a particular user."

Specify the max number of pushes that can be sent to a user and the period to be applied.‌

Let's say you've set up the Autopush limited to 10 impressions in 7 days. When it's time to send the Autopush according to the scheduling rules you set, Pushwoosh will check how many pushes has been sent to each device meeting the Autopush segmentation conditions within the last 7 days. The Autopush won't be sent to the devices that have received 10 or more pushes already. Please be aware that push notifications of any source, not only Autopushes, are counted.‌

One-time push

To set up frequency capping for a push message sent from the Send Push form, go to its Scheduling tab.

Toggle Frequency capping ON and specify the max number of pushes that can be sent to the user and the period to be applied.‌

Recurring push

For Recurring pushes, you'll find capping settings below the Frequency and Time fields.

Check the checkbox "Limit frequency of sending this message to a particular user." Specify the max number of pushes that can be sent to the user and the period to be applied.
